LYMINGTON and New Milton's Ian Robinson continued his impressive cup exploits since arriving at Fawcett's Field as Linnets bagged another higher level scalp to progress to the FA Cup second qualifying round.

Robinson took his side to the verge of a place in the first round proper in last year's competition, masterminded a run to the last 32 of the FA Vase and also guided them to the semi-finals of the Hampshire Senior Cup.

And having done for Ryman One outfit Sittingbourne in their preliminary round tie, Linnets produced another display that belies their standing in the pyramid as they comfortably saw off another Isthmian side, Molesey.

A goal in each half sealed the victory, with Darren Crook netting the match-clinching second late on after a Phil Caughter own goal had given the visitors the half-time advantage.

But it was the all-round nature of his team's performance that please the Linnets boss.

"We did really well and gave a good account of ourselves," smiled Robinson.

"We kept another clean sheet, scored two goals and you can't ask for much more than that. We got the goal just before half-time and then tightened up for the second half.

"We looked comfortable but at 1-0 it's always a bit on a knife edge but it would have been unjust if they'd have got anything from the game."

And with the draw for the second qualifying round taking place at 11am this morning, Robinson cautiously speculated as to the identity of Linnets' next opponents.

He added: "I reckon we'll pull out Eastleigh but I think the board would like us to get AFC Wimbledon, that would get a hell of a crowd in, but we're just happy to be in the hat."

Linnets: Watson, Curtis, Sheppard, Towler, P Smith, Thomson, C Smith, Anderson, Reacord (P James 65), Jackson (Carter 80), K James (Crook 65). Unused sub: Clothier.
