A HEADTEACHER received top marks when inspectors paid a visit to her 'very good school' in Weymouth.

Holy Trinity Infant School head- teacher Lyn Darley was overwhelmed by the positive response from the Ofsted team following their intensive inspection in June.

The Church of England school, which has 260 nursery and infant pupils, was described as a very effective school providing very good value for money.

The newly-published report stated: "The headteacher's excellent leadership has played a key part in improving the school. She works with her staff to raise standards and shares her vision for change with staff, governors and parents.

"Teaching and learning are very good, with some excellent teaching, particularly in the nursery and reception."

Mrs Darley praised the 'team effort' from the staff and governors to improve the school.

She said: "We are really, really pleased. I knew we had a good school but I am just very pleased that other people have realised that and appreciated all the hard work the staff put in.

"One of the inspectors said every single person in our school has an important role to play," she recalled. "I thought it was great that he recognised that."

The Ofsted team found that standards in the core subjects were well above average and said 'the commitment to sustained improvement by the staff and governors is a major influence on rising standards'.

Inspectors also praised the very good provision for pupils with special needs and the links with other schools, the community and parents

Their only criticism was about the nursery building, and inspectors recommended the school should 'continue with its efforts to provide appropriate satisfactory accommodation for the nursery'.
