A GOOD Samaritan who helped a 12-year-old girl after she had been assaulted in the centre of Poole is being sought by detectives.

The man assisted the youngster after she had fallen down stairs in a subway outside Chilli's nightclub in Kingland Crescent.

Police investigating an assault on the girl have arrested and released on police bail two youths and a 36-year-old woman.

But they are keen to speak to the good Samaritan who stopped to help the girl after the incident on August 13.

Information about the man who lent a helping hand has only just come to light.

The assault occurred between 9pm and 10pm and a witness saw a middle-aged man help the girl to her feet.

"After helping the 12-year-old, the good Samaritan was seen to continue walking under the subway, which leads to the Kentucky Fried Chicken fast food restaurant and the Dolphin Shopping Centre," said DC Lee Rutter, of Poole CID.

"It is important that this Good Samaritan comes forward and I am appealing to him to contact the police in confidence as soon as possible because he could have information to help my investigation."

He added: "The 12-year-old girl, who comes from Poole, was taken to Poole Hospital for treatment to facial injuries. No weapon was used in the assault."

Two youths aged 14 and 16, and a 36-year-old woman, who all come from the London area, were arrested the following day and have since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

The Good Samaritan who detectives are keen to trace is described as between 40 and 50 years old, tall, wearing a blue polo T-shirt and was carrying a rucksack.

Witnesses and anyone with information is asked to call Dorset Police on 01202 222500 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line 0800 555 111.
