WADE ELLIOTT admitted that Sean O'Driscoll is "a difficult man to please" but he's even harder on himself.

The Cherries winger produced a superb display of old-fashioned wing play in Tuesday night's (August 10) action-packed 2-2 draw with Walsall.

Elliott, who gave his full-back a torrid time, made one goal, scored the equaliser, grazed the post and saw a potentially spectacular winner clear the crossbar by a matter of inches as Cherries fought back from the dead with their late comeback.

After the match, O'Driscoll said of his player's performance: "About time, about time. He's had a season-and-a-half where he's not done it and we've kept telling him and really want him to do it.

"He's been great in pre-season and he's got the bit between his teeth and set the standard now.

"I was disappointed with the last two crosses he put in because he hit the first man but he was terrific in the first half, did his job and got the ball in the box."

But the level-headed 25-year-old insists there is even more to come from his game and the challenge now is to repeat the form on a regular basis.

Elliott told the Daily Echo: "I was pleased with how it went against Walsall.

"It was one of my better performances because it was sustained over the whole game. I think I have done that in flashes before but not really sustained it for quite a while.

"It is difficult to say whether that was my best game for the club but it is probably up there. But then you think back on a couple of those crosses that I didn't deliver and of course, it would have been even better if we had got the win."

But it is consistency that the ex-Bashley man is looking for as he bounces back from a disappointing campaign last season.

He said: "I was disappointed with the way last season fizzled out for me and came back with a bit of a point to prove. I was looking forward to coming back all over the summer.

"I know I can raise it even more and it is now up to me to produce that kind of form week in, week out. Sometimes it takes one good game to start a good period of form - hopefully, that will be the case but I'm not getting carried away by one decent performance. I need to keep doing it.

"Maybe it is a confidence thing. But Sean and all the boys have been really good in encouraging me to keep running at the defender.

"Sean has always backed me. He is a hard taskmaster and a difficult man to please because he sets his standards very high. He has been explicit in what he wants me to do and what he expects from me.

"He encourages me to take players on, get at the full-back and deliver crosses. As long as I do that - and even if I lose the ball while trying it - Sean will be pleased."

Elliott remains a popular figure among the Dean Court faithful, even receiving cheers as he repaired the newly-laid pitch during a break in play against Walsall.

He said: "The crowd have always been good to me and I have a good relationship with them. I was lucky in that I got off to a decent start when I arrived from Bashley and that I'm fairly local helped as well, I think."

He added: "I've been pleased with my form in pre-season and the first two games but I'm aware that I can raise it again. Now I have another 50-odd games to re-produce it."

Asked if O'Driscoll had said anything to him after the game, Elliott smiled: " Yeah, he reminded me about the two crosses I had wasted at the end!"
