CHILDREN were doing the jitterbug, GIs were jiving and military vehicles lined the entrance to Bridport's Colfox School.
The occasion was Bridport Heritage Forum's two-day event to mark D-Day, featuring exhibitions, demonstrations and the music and fashion of the wartime era.
One of the organisers, Celia Martin, was overwhelmed with the response to the event, which included a dance to Bridport Big Band.
"It's extraordinary when you've worked for ages on something because you don't know who's going to turn up and look - this is just superb. I have met some marvellous people while I have been researching it."
Town mayor Geoff Ackerman, who led a party of a VIP visitors, said: "It turned out very well. There was s a good crowd here and the weather was right."
