CELEBRITIES from the world of football braved the elements to take part in the inaugural Avonmouth Hotel Charity Golf Day at Barton-on-Sea.
The star-studded line up included former Cherries boss Harry Redknapp, ex-Saints managers Glenn Hoddle and Lawrie McMenemy, Arsenal legend Bob Wilson and one-time Spurs star John Chiedozie.
Organised to raise funds for the Willow Foundation, a charity that was founded by Wilson and which provides seriously ill people between the ages of 16 and 40 with memorable days out, the event banked a staggering £5,250.
Redknapp and Chiedozie both finished among the prizes, while a team from Frettens Solicitors mastered the atrocious weather conditions at the impressive cliff-top course to win the event with 111 Stableford points.
Avonmouth Hotel managing director Adam Terpening, who jointly organised the event with Alan Goodman of PRO International Ltd, said: "I was really delighted with the whole day.
"The support that we received from our main sponsors, friends and business colleagues was tremendous and this enabled us to raise more than £5,000 for such a worthy cause as the Willow Foundation.
"Due to the success of this year, we plan to make this charity golf day an annual event and we have already booked Barton-on-Sea for April 20 next year."
Following their round of golf, competitors enjoyed a gala dinner and charity auction at the Avonmouth Hotel in Mudeford which raised more than £3,000 towards the final total.
Among the lots were two hospitality boxes at Dean Court donated by Cherries director John Saunders, a round with Hoddle and his representative Dennis Roach at Mill Ride in Ascot (donated by Hoddle), a signed limited edition print of Sir Alex Ferguson (donated by the Willow Foundation) and a round of golf for four at Botley Park Golf and Country Club (donated by James Leeming).
Avonmouth Hotel Charity Golf Day results (best three from four Stableford scores to count): 1 Frettens 111, 2 Golden Fridays 110, 3 JOC's Boys 108. Longest drive: John Chiedozie. Nearest the pin: Harry Redknapp and Martin Young.
