A FORMER Woodroffe School pupil has become a Medical Officer in the Royal Navy.
Surgeon Lieutenant Simon Jaques, 32, has successfully completed a short introductory course at Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth and is now in the accident and emergency department at the Royal London Hospital.
Mr Jaques joined the navy as a medical cadet in 2000. After leaving Woodroffe in 1990 he gained an honours degree in oceanography from Southampton University before completing a masters degree in physiology at Kings College, London.
From there he moved to a medical degree based in St Barts hospital, London, where he qualified in 2002.
He worked in the oncology wards at St Barts before going to the Royal Naval College in October last year, where he has learnt about military life, leadership and team, training, as well as some parade training too.
His mum Janice Jaques travelled to Dartmouth to witness the passing out parade where second sea lord Admiral James Burnell-Nugent took the salute.
