HAVANT and Waterlooville star Shaun Wilkinson says he is on the verge of signing for Weymouth.

The midfielder has won plaudits for his performances after joining the Hawks from Brighton and Hove Albion in December.

But the 22-year-old claims life at West Leigh Park has recently turned sour and he now wants to join Steve Claridge's revolution.

Weymouth lodged a formal bid to their Dr Martens Premier Division rivals for Wilkinson last week, thought to be in the region of £3,000.

Now the combative Hawks skipper claims the two sides have reached an agreement and he plans to discuss terms with Weymouth in the next few days.

And he says the arrival at the Wessex Stadium of former Havant joint manager Mick Jenkins in a coaching capacity is a big reason behind the possible switch.

He said: "A deal has been done between the two clubs and I will be talking to Weymouth this week.

"I came out of professional football to join the Hawks for three people at the club - Derek Pope, Liam Daish, and Mick Jenkins."Derek has resigned as chairman and the other two have been sacked and so things have changed for me," he said.

Terras boss Steve Claridge said he was hopeful the drawn out saga would be resolved soon.

He said: "I don't want to say too much until any deal is complete but I'm pleased with the way things are moving on that front.

"Shaun is a player who I've seen quite a bit off and he would be a good addition to our squad because he would give us something a little bit different.

"We've offered Havant a fair price for him as he is on a fairly lengthy contract at Havant at the moment.

"The transfer has taken a while but myself and the chairman Ian Ridley plan to sit down with Shaun in the coming days and discuss terms.

"There are still a few things we need to sort out on a few matters. But I'm confident the negotiations will go well and Shaun will be a Weymouth player before too long."
