DORSET'S dominance of the regional badminton championships has continued with a 12-3 win at home to Wiltshire and leaves the team one match away from a National Premier League play-off place.

In the men's singles, Dorset took maximum points with Graham Hurrell and Mike Hux-ter overwhelming the opposition winning both their matches with ease. On the adjoining court, junior Nicky Cerfontyne led the ladies' challenge beating Veronique Nanook 11-8, 11-0, but the visitors struck back when Heather McCune beat Lorraine Page 11-7, 11-7.

In the doubles, Dorset had far too much fire power for the visitors, Hurrell teamed up with junior international Mark James and they strode past the opposition conceding a miserly 18 points in their two matches.

Former county champion Martin Wells partnered Huxter to maximum points, though they had to recover from losing the opening game against Wiltshire's top seeds, before sealing victory 12-15, 15-6, 15-3.

In the ladies' section, Dorset's two singles players teamed up to form the home team's top pair, and they also survived a fright when they dropped the opening game against their opposite numbers, but the local pair recovered strongly and took the match 5-15, 15-6, 15-7.

Alex Booth showed great bravery when she partnered Justine Breakwell to victory in their opening doubles clash. The Dorset girl injured her back in the first game but hung on to clinch victory 15-4, 12-15, 15-9.

The injury was such that Booth had to withdraw from the final doubles match allowing the visitors to pick up their second league point.

With the match already won, Dorset took two of the three mixed doubles matches to produce a fine 12-3 victory. Dorset have one match to play in the championship against Avon who they beat 9-6 away.

Unbeaten Dorset will have to fall to a record defeat if they are not to claim their place in the play-offs.

Dorset added to Wiltshire's sorrow when they won the battle of the county third teams.

Playing in Division Four of the regional championship, Dorset took full use of home advantage, winning 9-6.

But three age group teams faced opponents from Avon at home and all suffered heavy defeats. The over-55's team produced the best result going down 8-4. The over-45s were limited to just one win out of 12.

Captain Roger Primmer led the over-65s in their inaugural league match but they fell 6-3.
