SWANAGE and Wareham fought off the adverse effects of gale force winds to blow away mid-table Windsor 21-5 and breeze to victory in South West Two East.

A thoroughly professional display from the Bestwall boy's saw them hold firm in defence and show enough class with the ball in hand to ease to a third straight win.

Swans were on the offensive from the off, but their only chance came when a chip through the Windsor defence left winger Tim Marshall grounded but he was adjudged to have knocked-on.

However from the resulting scrum, Windsor were penalised, and skipper Phil Graves put the home side ahead with the resultant kick.

Swans turned up the heat on the Berkshire side and from a line out, a Swans catch and drive move had second row David Burgess taking the ball before eventually scoring out wide.

Swans repulsed a flurry of Windsor attacks, and just before half-time, Swans cleared their lines and from a punt downfield, Windsor were guilty of hanging on to the ball and Phil Graves put the home side 13 points up at the break.

The second period followed much the same pattern as the first and on 52 minutes, Swans scrum-half Pete Sammons quickly moved the ball to full-back Chris Leak coming through on the burst, and Leak dived in for an unconverted try.

Graves added another penalty to take the score to 21-0 before Windsor fly-half Tarek Quitteineh crossed Swans line late on to put the away side on the board.

Swans: Leak (McConnell 65), Gould, P Graves, D Graves, Marshall, Smith, Sammons, Peters, Elford, Williams (Randall 68), Burgess, Snowden, Murray, Elford, Meehan (Speer 67).

l Swanage and Wareham under-16s beat their Sherborne counterparts by 39 points to nil, while the under-14s fell to a 24-12 defeat to the Sherborne under-14s.

l Oakmeadians slipped to defeat for the second week in a row as they were leapfrogged by Marlow after their 26-17 victory.

In appalling weather conditions, Oaks were hampered by the loss of two players with bone fractures. The first came as early as the second minute, when Stuart Ramsey broke a finger and captain Hayden Hokianga later left the field with a bone broken in his hand.

Marlow used intelligent mauling to keep the ball tight and drive the Bournemouth side back in the first quarter and they went in front when centre Simon Swadding broke through and scored to put them ahead.

The home side twice crossed the line but were denied by the referee both times before Francois Van Schalkwyk took hold of an astute kick and crossed to put Oaks back in touch.

But in first half injury time, Marlow captain Jaksa Lovreta, who also captains the Croatian national side, dived over in the corner to put his side 15-5 ahead at the break.

Swadding added two penalties to extend the away side's advantage but when Oaks finally got quick ball, Jon Axon scored to give them hope.

The loss of Hokianga came as an untimely blow though and Marlow scored a further try, before Axon went over for his second try in injury time.

Oakmeadians: Morgan, Stantiford, T Van Schalkwyk, Roddis, F Van Schwalkwyk, Harman, Payne, Siaki, Gallagher, Riley, Axon, Ramsey (Croker), Flower, Clarke, Hokianga (Tubale).

l Oakmeadians' second string sneaked a 17- 16 win over the Marlow second XI.

l Wimborne returned to winning ways with an important 34-9 win over basement boys High Wycombe at Leigh Park.

Returning winger Chris O'Neil did the damage with two tries and Danny Moore, George Leyland and Andy Dobson also went over to complete a very satisfactory afternoon for the All Blacks.

O'Neil opened the scoring after the home forwards had pinned Wycombe back in their 22 and Moore then gleefully accepted Mark Griffith's pass and ran half the length of the pitch for the second try.

The sides traded penalties for a 15-6 half-time score but with the wind at their backs in the second period, it was only a matter of time before the home side extended their lead and second row Leyland crashed over to knock the stuffing out of the visitors.

Dobson and O'Neil added the coup de grace with tries late on as Wimborne powered home.

Wimborne: Baker, Atkins, Tinsdale, Leyland, Dobson, Coulling, Oddie Abbot, Barter, Wells, Fyln, Griffith, Moore, O'Neil, Lamb.

l Poole put up a spirited display against top of the table Bridport but could not break down a solid away defence as they went down 15-5.

The home side started strongly but couldn't force a way over the line and Bridport capitalised on a Poole error as Chris Scadding opened the leaders' account.

Poole fought back strongly but were again undone on the counter when Brett Frampton ran in the away side's second try 10 minutes before the break.

The elements worsened in the second half and handling errors became commonplace.

Bridport added a penalty to effectively seal the game. But with five minutes to go, the home side eventually got on the scoresheet when some great handling by the backs allowed Greg Reid to break through to score Poole's try in the corner.
