SEAN O'Driscoll's diligent troops take to the road on their first journey in pursuit of excellence tonight (Jan 26).

O'Driscoll's squad will be among the crowd at St Mary's to watch four-times European champions Bayern Munich meet Southampton in the Ted Bates Trophy.

The trip has been arranged by Claire Thackeray who works closely with both the players and boss O'Driscoll to help provide team support.

And after picking up some tips from the German giants at St Mary's, Cherries will continue their new venture when they pay a visit to watch the Brighton Bears basketball team a week tomorrow.

Thackerary said: "These are the first two initiatives in our strategy to enhance excellence within our own squad.

"We are looking at the best practices in other sporting success stories and will also be hoping to learn from business and industry as well.

"We would like to thank Southampton Football Club for all their help and support with our first venture."

O'Driscoll's players have been encouraged to put forward their own ideas for future trips and tonight's visit to St Mary's was suggested by self-confessed Southampton fan Wade Elliott.
