BEDROOMS in nearby homes could be overlooked if plans go ahead for two large houses on a prominent site at Bridport, councillors have warned.

Members of the town's plans committee have agreed to continue their opposition to the development in the grounds of Coneygar Grove at St Andrew's Road.

They say the proposed homes and garages are too large for the site and the access is poor. And Coun Martin Ray told Monday's meeting that the footpath leading to the planned homes would be " a mugger's paradise" in the evenings.

Coun David Tett said he was concerned about neighbours' privacy at numbers 1 and 2 Sparacre Gardens. It was an elevated site and the proposed homes could look down into their bedrooms. The site was more suitable for just one house.

Chairman Carole Murless said although it was a large site she was concerned about the proposed house sizes and what would happen to some magnificent trees in the grounds. Access was another concern.

Coun Tony Fifield said the homes would "dominate the whole area" and he suggested that split level properties or bungalows would be better.

"I think these are far too big," he added.
