IT'S a tough job - but Bridport Round Table took on the heady challenge of reviving its popular beer festival at the weekend.

The event made a successful return after a five year break with three sessions at town's Arts Centre on Friday and Saturday.

The festival raised over £2,000 for local worthy causes, with Bridport Football club running a barbecue raising £250 towards their continuing club development appeal.

Both Friday and Saturday night sessions, with live music, were well supported by sponsors, locals and visitors.

Saturday's lunchtime session was a more sedate affair, attracting passers-by as well as the more committed real ale buffs from CAMRA who travelled from far and wide.

"Everyone who came seemed to enjoy the opportunity of sampling the wide variety of beers, ciders, and wines available, and just generally having a good time," said the Beer Festival organiser Fred Fowler.

He said one committed beer lover, a CAMRA member from Kent, left home at 4am, travelling by train and bus, to attend the festival - having already been to a similar event in Durham the day before.

Round Table Chairman Darren Batten said: "We are delighted at having raised so much money for local good causes. I would like to thank all the local companies who gave us support and sponsorship, many of whom came along and enjoyed a glass or two of beer."

The Round Tablers are hoping their various events this year, which in partnership with other organisations have so far raised over £7,500, will spark interest in adding to their current membership of 13.

They are keen to hear from men aged between 18 and 45 who are interested in helping organise such events, raising money for charity and having a good time.
