Torquay provides the backdrop for this comedy based on the sport of lawn bowls.
Reigning champ Ray Speight (James Cromwell) believes that tradition must be upheld at any cost and when flashy, arrogant and foul-mouthed newcomer Cliff Starkey (Paul Kaye) dares to challenge his supremacy, the battle lines are drawn.
Cliff is a young pretender from the wrong side of town who smokes and drinks to excess, and entertains the crowd with flash tricks.
As Cliff and his glitzy American agent Rick (Vince Vaughn) transform the formerly stuffy game of lawn bowls, the enmity between Ray and Cliff intensifies.
Joining in the action are Alice Evans, Johnny Vegas as Cliff's larger-than-life pal, Bernard Cribbins, Imelda Staunton and Mark Little.
