A MAN was killed and another was seriously injured after a two-car smash on the A35.

Police said the man who died was driving a green Vauxhall Astra when it was in collision with a silver Ford Focus on the eastbound carriageway of the A35 at Tolpuddle Ball, near Dorchester, yesterday at 3.05pm. He died at the accident scene and the driver of the Ford Focus, who was seriously injured, was trapped in his vehicle. Firefighters helped release him and he was airlifted to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester by police helicopter.

A spokesman for the hospital said he is in a stable condition in the intensive care unit.

The road was completely closed after the collision, which caused major traffic delays for motorists and it was not re-opened until 8.30pm. Witnesses should call (01305) 226861.

n Motorists faced long queues when three drivers were hurt in a rush-hour crash at Whitcombe between Dorchester and Broadmayne.

The casualties, one with serious injuries, were taken to the Dorset County Hospital after the accident on the A352 just before 6pm last night. Motorists faced tailbacks as the wreckage of the three cars - two Volkswagen Golfs and a red Vauxhall Cavalier - was moved.
