THE elements are providing the toughest opposition for Bridport Football Club at the moment. Last Saturday's Screwfix Direct Premier clash at Keynsham Town fell foul to the weather when the sodden Crown Field pitch was deemed unplayable.

Bridport Reserves also found themselves without a game for the third Saturday running as St Mary's Field was completely under water, which put pay to their Elite Teamwear Dorset Premier League match with Hamworthy United. After the downpours came the frosts and cancellation of the Dorset Senior Cup tie with Swanage Town and Herston on Tuesday night.

To make matters worse, the Bees' scheduled away match at Melksham Town on Saturday January 18 has been postponed because the home side have county cup commitments.

It leaves fixtures secretary Adrian Scadding with a real headache, having to add yet another rearranged game to a long list, with a whole month of action already missed earlier in the season.

Manager Peter Conning held full training sessions to compensate for the lack of match practice, but he is worried about pulling in the unfulfilled fixtures.

He said: "We were so far behind in the first place and we're going to end up playing lots of games in a short period, which is hard because of unavailability and injuries.

"It makes it even more difficult because a lot of those rearranged fixtures will be away from home in midweek."

Hardly any action for Kevin Donovan's Reserves over the past month has had a knock on effect on the first team as Conning had hoped to give fringe first team players a run out in recent weeks.

He said: "It's been frustrating because we need to keep players match fit and we haven't been able to do that. People like Simon Austin just haven't been getting games.

"Although we have trained it is not the same as being involved in matches where you get that extra edge and sharpness."

The Dorset Senior Cup tie with Swanage Town and Herston has now been re-arranged for next Wednesday evening January 15, 7.45pm kick off, weather permitting of course.

The Bees will also travel to Paulton Rovers on Saturday January 19 in place of the Melksham Town fixture.
