STAR TREK: NEMESIS (12A)

Touted as the final mission for Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his crew, this is a mix of action set-pieces and double-dealing that boldly goes where the other films have gone before. Short of suspense and pzzazz, the series may be facing its final frontier.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS (12A)

The second part of JRR Tolkien's Middle-Earth trilogy astounds. Following the death of Boromir (Sean Bean) and the apparent death of Gandalf (Ian McKellen), the Fellowship divides into three groups for a series of struggles between the forces of darkness and light. The stunning visual effects of the first part are outdone and the only disappointment is how quickly the screen time goes by.

Reese Witherspoon stars in this frothy rom com in which she plays a fashion designer, who has left her home in the South for New York, where US Senator Andrew Hennings (Patrick Dempsey) proposes marriage. Before she can accept, however, she must return home to finalise her divorce from high school sweetheart Jake (Josh Lucas).
