CHRISTCHURCH continued their recent excellent cup form by progressing to the Hampshire Senior Cup third round with a 3-1 win over BAT at Hurn Bridge last night (Dec 10).

Priory, who have made it through to the FA Vase last 32 for the first time in the club's history, were given a golden opportunity to grab another cup victory after only a quarter of an hour when they were awarded a penalty, resulting in BAT being reduced to 10 men for a handball offence on their goalline.

Duncan Wells' penalty kick, however, was saved.

And Nigel Cripps and Tony Brown's side found it difficult to break down a stubborn remaining 10-man BAT, going into the break all-square at 0-0.

Wells, though, was not to be denied, as he coolly lobbed the visiting keeper 12 minutes after the interval to put Priory in front.

Ben Finnigan then threaded an excellent ball through to Lee Manning, who chipped a delightful ball over the oncoming keeper from the edge of the box to double Christchurch's lead.

Wells was in the limelight once again just two minutes later, when he found himself in a one-on-one situation with the keeper, before slotting the ball home to make it 3-0, before the visitors grabbed a late goal from a penalty in the dying minutes.

Christchurch: Frampton, Butler, Langdown, Baker, P Rideout, Hillyer, Edwards (Wyatt 48), Griffiths, Grace (M Rideout 76, Sykes 78), Manning, Wells.
