Hampshire LeagueDivision One SALISBURY 2 WEYMOUTH 6

WEYMOUTH returned to winning ways with a 6-2 thumping of Salisbury.

And the leaders were back in sparkling form in an end to end encounter with their Wiltshire rivals.

The Seasiders now lead Hampshire Division One by three clear points from near neighbours and championship rivals, Wimborne.

And the two teams meet in a top of the table clash at Redlands on Saturday in the last game before the Christmas break.

Patrick May and Kevin Dyke shot the table-topping Dorset side into an early advantage, both finding the target from close range.

But a fired up home side led by ex-Weymouth player Danny Dines produced a spirited comeback.

With a couple of minutes to go before half time they had brought the tie back to level terms, however Nick Chubb then took the wind out of their sails as he pounced on a defensive error to reclaim the lead.

The first goal of the second half, which went to the visitors, was to prove crucial. Jim Henderson struck at a short corner to create a two-goal buffer from which the visitors never looked back.

Now dominating their opponents, Nick Chubb added the fifth following another well-worked short corner

routine.

The Seasiders were now in control and should have gone further in front but Dave Chubb's cross proved too powerful for May to convert into an empty net. In the final minutes, the Chubb cousins combined for Dave to deflect home the sixth goal of a very satisfying victory.

Captain and Seasiders goalkeeper Mike Baker was delighted with both the result and the performance.

He said: "There was a lot more urgency in our play and we were rewarded with a good win against decent opposition.

"It sets us up nicely for what's going to be a massive game when Wimborne visit Redlands on Saturday."
