JOINT boss Tony Brown exclaimed Priory's young guns were a "treat to work with" after seeing his boys emphatically book their place in the FA Vase last 32 for the first time in the club's history.

Christchurch had never even been beyond the second round of the minor leagues' premier competition until this season.

But after Lee Manning (2), Duncan Wells (2) and Paul Rideout took Rovers apart in Somerset, the modest Hurn Bridge outfit will be one of just two Wessex League sides left in today's fourth round draw.

Manning broke the deadlock on the half-hour converting Wells' right wing centre before doubling the visitors' lead 10 minutes later, thundering in the rebound from his own original effort.

Rideout wasted a great chance to make it three at the break but headed Wells' cross straight at the Rovers 'keeper. But Wells succeeded where Rideout had failed after the restart taking advantage of Ross Edwards' through ball.

Rideout made amends for his earlier miss to make it four, blasting home another Wells cross from 15-yards before the in-form Wells, playing in an unfamiliar striking role, continued his impressive recent scoring run to net the fifth following a one-two with Edwards.

Brown said: "If teams are lucky enough to get money then I certainly don't begrudge them it but I think our boys do it for the right reasons. They're so honest and hard working and they're now getting out of the game what they're putting in and deserve it.

"It tickled me seeing the Welton players queuing up to get their money after the game even though they had just been thrashed. We treated our boys to a couple of cases of beer and had a sing-song on the way home!"

He added: "There are some horrendous draws to be had but we want someone who we'd never normally have the chance of meeting because it's a clean slate, they don't know anything about us and vice versa."

Christchurch: Frampton, Grace (Beverley, 80), Rideout (Wyatt, 70), Butler, Langdown, Baker, Hillyer, Edwards, Griffiths (Horlock, 60), Wells, Manning. Unused subs: Thompson, Sykes.
