IN-FORM Poole Town leap-frogged East Cowes Vics to second place in the Hampshire League Premier Division following their 2-1 win over basement boys Fawley at Tatnam Farm.
But the result was overshadowed by the death of club stalwart and recently appointed supporters' club vice-chairman Bob Terrell from a heart attack during the match.
Despite missing influential trio Jamie Holland, Darren Mooney and Brian Mundee, the Dolphins stamped their authority on the game from the off and following a spell of sustained pressure, Karim Banssouada created some space before squaring the ball for Darren Elmes to tap in on 15 minutes.
With irrepressible marksman Banssouada desperately seeking his 16th Poole goal of the season, Paul Morrell and Dean Mooney's side always looked favourites to take the three points.
And when Matty Homer doubled their advantage on the half-hour, it looked as though the floodgates could open.
But Fawley hit back just a minute after the restart and although much of the second-half was fought in the midfield, Town were left thankful for the win.
Poole: Elliot, Woodward, Spalding, Fletcher, Wright, Ainsworth, G Morris, Homer, M. Morris, Elmes, Banssouada. Unused Subs: D Morrell, D Neville, P Morrell.
Ringwood Town went on the rampage at Long Lane as they fired seven without reply past a beleaguered Pirelli General side in the Premier Division while Lymington Town fought out an entertaining 3-3 draw with Brading Town. Verwood and Micheldever each took a Division One point from their goalless stalemate.
