THERE is good news and bad news for Weymouth fans today.

The bad news is that defender Gethin Jones has been recalled by Cardiff City, while the good news is that Matthew Hale has rejoined the Terras.

Jones has gone back to Ninian Park just a week after having his loan period

extended by a month, while Hale returns to the Wessex Stadium after quitting the Marines at the weekend.

Boss Geoff Butler explained; "Apparently there are clubs interested in signing Gethin and so Cardiff want him back there playing in the reserves.

"It's disappointing because I would have thought Weymouth was an ideal shop window, but they worked a recall clause into his loan deal and so my hands are tied."

He added: "Getting Matthew Hale back is a great boost and it's nice to have some really positive news to report.

"We had an agreement that he'd talk to me once he was ready to play again and I'm obviously delighted to have him back."

Hale, who spent the tail end of last season on loan at Bath City, quit Weymouth to try his luck in the services at the start of the summer.

But things haven't worked out for the 23-year-old who played a couple of games for Mangotsfield back in August.

He explained: "I'm gutted to have had to leave the Marines, but there were one or two issues concerning me, particularly the financial restrictions that have been placed upon me.

"I regret that things haven't worked out, but I'm delighted to be coming back to Weymouth.

"A few clubs were interested in signing me, but the minute I spoke to Geoff Butler, I jumped at the chance. I've missed my football tremendously and I'm really looking forward to getting going again."

Hale, who is now looking for a full-time job in his home city of Bristol, has signed a contract until the end of the season.

Butler is hoping Hale will be available to make his debut in the Dr Martens Cup first round clash with Steve Tate's Newport (IoW) at St George's Park tonight, 7.45pm.

However, the Terras boss will be without injured duo Mark Robinson (thigh) and Mark Kenway (knee).

Ryan Ashford returns following suspension while reserve defender Scott Dennis is likely to be added to the squad.

"Our season starts here," Butler said. "We've gone as low as we can go and now it's time for everyone to graft."
