THE speed limit on a road that has claimed two lives in seven months is to be reduced after councillors agreed last night that it was too dangerous.
At the moment the Holes Bay Road in and out of Poole allows motorists to travel at 70mph along the dual carriageway.
But after 14 injuries and two deaths on the road this year, transport chiefs have decided to cut the limit to 50mph.
Suggestions that clearer markings could help drivers get in the right lane earlier at junctions on the A350 were discussed at a meeting of the Borough of Poole's transportation advisory group.
Cllr Tony Trent also asked if it would be wiser to extend the 50mph out a short way on to the Upton by-pass to make next year's Creekmoor park-and-ride operation safer. Both suggestions were noted but councillors decided in the meantime to cut the speed limit.
