WEST Dorset District Council's Leisure Development Fund have provisionally recommended allocating £3,000 towards skateboard equipment in response to an application for cash aid from Lyme Regis Development Trust.

The Fund's panel decided not to award the grant at this stage but to defer a decision until the council's Sports Development Officer is fully satisfied with safety, security and management of the proposed skateboard site.

The provisional decision by the district council means that that the proposed skateboard park project has potentially £16,798.37 allocated for the purchase of equipment - if Lyme Regis town council's grant of £5,000, made in July, is also included.

Marcus Dixon, the Trust's Development Manager said: "This sum would provide a range of exciting equipment that has been requested by local skateboarders. Lyme Regis Town Council can be confident that significant funds will be available to support the further development of their initiative to provide a permanent skateboard site at Charmouth Road.
