xXx (12A, 124 mins)

spy tale with more brawn than brain in which action man Vin Diesel takes on a group of hi-tech terrorists led by Marton Csokas, but sex rears its head in the shapely form of Asia Argento - see review.

THE POWERPUFF GIRLS MOVIE (PG, 73 mins)

Enjoyable big-screen version of the cult TV cartoon series - see review.

A LOOK at life on a South London housing estate with the help of a whole host of British stars as directed by Mike Leigh and well worth its five-star rating if you like domestic drama writ large - see review.

SLAP HER SHE'S FRENCH (12A)

SLAP screenwriters Lamar Damon and Robert Lee King for attempting this 'comedy', which stars Jane McGregor, Piper Perabo, Trent Ford, Alexandra Adi, Nicki Lynn Aycox, Julie White, Brandon Smith and Matt Czuchry. Sadly, the only laughs you're likely to hear during the screening of Melanie Mayron's movie are from the on-screen characters.

ASTERIX & OBELIX: MISSION CLEOPATRA (PG)

THE legendary pair are back, and I mean Asterix and Obelix although Gerard Depardieu and Christian Clavier do get to reprise their roles as the great Gauls - see review.

RED DRAGON (15, 124 mins)

This Silence Of The Lambs prequel is a real thriller with a twist in the tale. FBI Agent Will Graham (Edward Norton) investigates a serial killer nicknamed The Tooth Fairy (Ralph Fiennes), who slays families during each full moon. With three weeks until the next full moon, Will seeks the help of old foe Dr Lecter (a commanding Anthony Hopkins) to get inside the mind of his prey. Little does he know that a blind photo laboratory technician (a lambent Emily Watson) has already met The Tooth Fairy, and could be his next victim. A tense and chilling tale.

LILO & STITCH (U, 85 mins)

A charming animated fable involving an evil alien scientist (voiced by David Ogden Stiers) and his creature Stitch (Chris Sanders), orphan Lilo (Daveigh Chase) and her older sister Nani (Tia Carrere), who adopt Stitch and help him quell his genetic impulses for destruction.

ROAD TO PERDITION (15, 116 mins)

Sam Mendes joins forces with Tom Hanks, Paul Newman and Jude Law for a 1930s gangster film full of brilliant moments. When his wife and youngest child are murdered, hitman Michael O'Sullivan (Hanks) goes on the run with his surviving son Michael Jr (Tyler Hoechlin). He believes Connor Looney (Daniel Craig), son to a revered mob boss (Newman), is the prime suspect and plots revenge, but rival assassin Maguire (Law) has been hired to protect Connor at all costs. Impeccably directed and acted, with Hoechlin deserving plaudits for his debut.

MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING (PG)

Joel Zwick's charming culture-clash comedy has a smart script, breezy direction and quirky characters with Nia Vardalos and co-star John Corbett at the very heart of this unmissable feelgood movie.

SIGNS (12A)
