WEYMOUTH Reserves kick off their Wessex Com-bination Cup campaign with a first round, first leg tie at Gosport Borough Reserves tonight, writes Paul Baker.

The competition has proved a bit of a nightmare for the Terras over recent years - twice they've been forced to withdraw from it after fielding ineligible players.

Boss Dave Kiteley said: "It's not my favourite competition. There's a ruling that says that if a player has played just one second of Southern League football then he's not allowed to take part in the Combination Cup.

He added: "Last year we got caught out by playing Danny Bews after he'd had just a three minute run-out for the first team and it just seems like we're jinxed when it comes to the Combination Cup."

That ruling means there's no place for John Waldock this evening, having made a 20 minute appearance in the FA Cup at Chippenham last month, while his defensive partner Scott Dennis misses out through suspension.

Skipper Mark Nicholson is sidelined by an ankle injury, but Paul Gadsby returns in goal following first team duty at the weekend.

"It's going to be tough up there and our main objective will be to give ourselves something to play for in the second leg at the Wessex Stadium."

Terras: Gadsby, Evans, Walker, S Critchell, Dunn, Lambert, Mutch, Lamb, Bichard, Frear, Fitch, Ritchie, Hill, Borthwick.

Tonight's game is subject to a lunchtime pitch inspection at Privett Park.
