SWANAGE AND Wareham maintained their 100 per cent start to the league season with a convincing 37-13 victory over Windsor at Bestwall.

Swans made it five wins out of five in South West Division Two East after proving too strong for title rivals Windsor who were on the back foot from the off, conceding a quick tap penalty after just three minutes from which skipper Phil Graves touched down.

The Bestwall boys continued to boss affairs and added a Graves penalty after 20 minutes to lead 8-0 before another good break by fly-half Mark Woolley caused havoc and set up another Graves penalty as Swans stretched ahead 11-0.

Woolley produced another fine run before the break and released Barry Walton who outpaced the Berkshire outfit's defence for Swans' second try. Graves converted to give Swans a comfortable 18-0 lead although Gary Williams replied with a penalty to cut the deficit to 18-3 at the interval.

But Swans continued to dominate after the interval and full-back Jamie Marshall dummied his way past the defence to set up Pete Sammons for another score after 43 minutes. Graves notched the conversion as Swans raced ahead 25-3.

Windsor hit back and cut the arrears to 25-10 courtesy of a Tony Irvine try converted by Williams but Swans regained control on the hour.

The home side capitalised on a dropped pass in the Windsor defence and Andy Gould fly hacked the ball on to score try number four. Graves added the extras as Swans moved into a 32-10 lead.

Woolley rounded off the scoring with his second try to give Swans a resounding victory as they once again outlined their title credentials.

Swanage seconds thumped Tottonians 67-7 at Bestwall with Steven Kershaw and Richard Gordon leading the way with a brace of tries and there were singles for Karl Randall, Jon Blackmore, Chris Cooke, Brenden Rushton, Gavin Steeden, Richard Harwood and Chris Leek who also added six comversions.

The thirds suffered a 32-14 reverse at Bournemouth seconds where the visitors scored tries through John Constable and Mick Ross who also added two conversions.

A late Guy Spencer try could not save Bournemouth Lions from a 27-23 defeat at Frome in Southern Counties South.

The home side took the lead with a try from number eight Matt Lewis after 20 minutes before Bourne hit back with a long-range Andy Weeks penalty to trail 5-3.

But Frome reasserted control with an Ian Gibson penalty and converted score as Gibson converted Neil Collis' try to lead 15-3 only for the visitors to move within two points at the interval (15-13) thanks to another Weeks penalty and a John Versfeld try which Weeks converted. Frome got the upper hand at the start of the second half with a Toby Culffi score although the excellent Weeks closed the gap to 20-16 with another penalty.

The home side appeared to have sealed the win when Collis scored another converted try but battling Bounemouth made them fight all the way by hitting back with one of their own through Guy Spencer. Weeks added the two points - to overtake Mark Burley's club league conversion record of 42 - but Frome held on for victory.
