BOURNEMOUTH'S popular balloon looks set to be out of action after falling victim to the strong winds that swept the south coast at the weekend.
Onlookers passing the Bournemouth Eye in the Lower Gardens at around 3pm on Sunday witnessed the balloon deflate in the bad weather.
The owners, S&D Leisure, were yesterday carrying out assessments on the balloon to establish the full extent of the damage. They declined to comment on the situation.
A spokesman from Bourne-mouth council said: "The Bournemouth Eye was damaged on Sunday in the bad weather. The operators are currently working on establishing the full extent of the damage and how it was caused. Until a full assessment has been carried out, the operators cannot say what the next step will be with regards to the operation of the balloon."
