THE husband of missing Weymouth mum Susan Meecham today told of his family's 10 days of anguish.

Stewart Meecham spoke to the Dorset Echo of his worry over his wife's disappearance and the heartbreaking effect on their two children, 14-year-old Simon and nine-year-old Sarah.

Mrs Meecham, 39, of Westham in Weymouth, was last seen dropping her daughter off at school at around 9am on Tuesday, September 10, in her Ford Escort car.

Police have said they now believe Mrs Meecham, who owns Take Two video shop in Portland Road with her husband, may have gone to Spain.

Mr Meecham, 40, who has just retired from the Royal Navy, said: "The last 10 days have been very hard.

"I'm just trying to keep things as normal as I can for the children. They are going to school and we are trying to get on with life.

"They are very upset about what has happened especially Sarah. If you mention her mum her eyes start welling up. It is heartbreaking.

"Everything we see in the house reminds us of Susan. All her things are still in the house."

Mr Meecham said he is making sure he keeps the children and himself busy and is taking every day a step at a time.

He said: "I think Susan has had a breakdown but once she realises what has happened I hope she will come back. Everyone misses her."

He said his wife's father has high blood pressure and has taken his daughter's disappearance very badly.

Mr Meecham added: "I have diverted all calls to the house telephone number straight to my mobile.

"I am pleading for anyone who may know where she is or has been in contact with her to let us know either where she is or that she is OK."

Police said a woman fitting her description was seen boarding a ferry sailing from Plymouth in Devon to Santander in Spain.

Chief Inspector Rick Dowell, of Weymouth Police, said: "After the ferry returned to Plymouth, Mrs Meecham's car was not on board so we believe she drove off the ferry when it docked in Santander.

"We have given the Spanish authorities, via Interpol, Mrs Meecham's description as well as details of her vehicle."

Police have said they do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Anyone with information about Mrs Meecham's whereabouts should contact police on (01305) 767474.
