BROADBAND could be coming to Bridport in the next few months, thanks to Bridport Chamber of Trade.

IT company AbbTel Limited, from Portland, said it was extremely pleased to have the chamber's support and was impressed with the level of interest received from the Bridport area.

Managing director Nick Brown said: "We are now urgently looking into bringing wireless broadband to Bridport sooner than we had anticipated.

"We are now planning to get Bridport connected by mid-autumn, rather than in the New Year as originally planned."

Traders have been calling for a broadband link because it makes connection to the internet that much quicker than usual.

Mr Brown said the speeds that we being seen on AbbTel's test sites were "amazing". "Anyone who has had to struggle with a modem won't be able to believe their eyes! Imagine being able to download and work on, say a 1 Mb document in less than a second, rather than waiting the usual five minutes for the same file to download via the modem," he said.

"With wireless, the upload and download speeds are the same, so you can send large files or pictures in a faction of the time a modem or an ISDN line takes."

The cost will be £34.99 per month and for connection with up to five PVCs the charge if £99 per month, giving always-on, unmetered access so there are no phone bills on top. To find out more contact enquiries@abbtel.co.uk
