TWO very special Bournemouth gardeners were invited to attend the Britain in Bloom awards this week.

Wilf Marshall, 87, and John Miles, 80, were asked by the Royal Horticultural Society to attend the special ceremony as a reward for all their hard work and effort.

The green-fingered pair have been active members of Longbarrow Allotments for over 50 years.

Wilf became president of the allotments 52 years ago and John became chairman two years later.

The allotments were then based on the Townsend Estate and the pair nurtured their allotment patches until the site was moved to its existing land at Throop.

Longbarrow Allotments was picked as one of the places the Gardeners World TV crew visited for their programme, which Wilf and John are both set to make an appearance in.

Wilf said: "I am very pleased we have won Britain in Bloom. When the judges came down to our allotments they were very impressed."
