PUPILS hit the road for a walk from Dorchester Middle School to Martinstown before camping out on the playing field.

The 158-strong group of youngsters from year eight were led by staff on the tenth annual trek to the village and back again. Teacher Matt Roberts said: "It was very successful and the pupils seemed to enjoy themselves.

"The walk is designed as a bonding exercise. The pupils walked the six or seven miles there and back.

"Then they camped out at the school overnight, and had to cook their own dinner and breakfast."

The pupils, aged 12, went on the walk at the start of their final year at the Queens Avenue School before heading up to senior school next year.
