DORSET Police are renewing their appeal for witnesses to a serious road crash near Bere Regis after an 81-year-old victim lost her fight for life.

The Hampshire woman, who has not been named, was a passenger in a Ford Escort car involved in a collision with three other cars on the A31 Wimborne to Bere Regis road.

The accident happened on September 12 just before 1.30pm at the White Post junction to Winterborne Kingston.

The smash closed the main A31 road for two-and-a-half hours with the trapped woman being freed from the wreckage of her car by firefighters.

She was airlifted to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester suffering broken ribs but tragically the 81-year-old died at the hospital on Tuesday.

Inspector Julian Stone of Dorset Police's road policing unit, said: "I would appeal to motorists to think back to that day and to come forward if they recall seeing anything at all - not just the collision itself but also the manner in which any of the four vehicles involved were being driven."

The collision involved a Ford Mondeo estate, a Ford Fiesta and a Ford Focus as well as the Ford Escort.

Anyone with information should contact PC Jon Barrett of the Dorchester road policing unit on 01305 226861.
