EX-DORCHESTER Town defender Scott Morgan is looking forward to another crack at the European Champions League next season after signing a new two-year deal with Welsh double winners Barry Town.

The 26-year-old son of Weymouth-based, Pompey scout Stuart Morgan, who played for the resort's one-time top youth side Weymouth Wizards as a schoolboy, has been a regular in the Welsh side's defence since ex-West Ham star Kenny Brown stepped up from a coaching role to take over as manager from former Gunner Peter Nicholas part-way through the season.

After clinching the Welsh League title and qualifying for Europe again two weeks ago, the full-timers from Barry made Welsh history by completing the double for the second year running at the weekend with a 4-1 win over their league rivals Bangor.

Now Morgan junior just can't wait for the draw for the qualifying round of the Champions League to be announced next month.

Experience

"I played in the home leg of our first round tie against a side from Azerbiijan last season when we won 2-0, but our manager changed the system for the away leg and I was a substitute," he said.

"Then we drew the mighty Porto and although I was again on the bench for both games and we lost 11-1 on aggregate, it was an unbelievable experience.

"Then when Kenny Brown took over from Peter Nicholas he put me straight back into the side and I didn't miss a game for the rest of the season. I wasn't even suspended - which might come as a surprise to people who remember my earlier days in Dorset. But I am a lot calmer now and I've only been yellow-carded a couple of times this season.

Break

"The boss even made me captain when our normal skipper was out of action, which shows how much he thinks of me."

It will be a short summer break for Morgan whose side return to pre-season training on June 17 - just four days before they discover who their opponents will be in the first round of the Champions League.

"The draw is being made in Geneva on June 21 so we've all got that marked down on our calenders," he said. "We know who the teams are in our group and among the places we could go are Finland, Cyprus, and Slovenia - but I hope we draw the Irish club Shelbourne because I know them well from my two seasons with Galway and it would be nice to go back over there again."

"If we get through our qualifying round again we could come up against Newcastle - and what an experience that would be."
