YOUNG sailor Pippa Wilson, 15, is the toast of the Royal Lymington YC after becoming Britain's newest national dinghy champion, in the Cadet Class, as well as the first girl to win the title for 13 years crewed by Charlie Hatfield, from the same club.

Pippa also became the first girl to win both the Under 15 and Cadet National Championships - on top of winning both the Inland Championships and the Flaunders Youth Regatta this year.

As if that was not enough honour for local sailors, second place was achieved in the 120-Entry Torbay event by Simon Lambert and David Brewer, from Parkstone YC, while Iain Watson and Ed Thomas, also of the Royal Lymington YC, made it a clean sweep by scooping third place.

The Championships that could not have been more keenly contested, with entries up by a third over the last four years, showing the increasing popularity of dinghy sailing with young people.
