NEW fans' favourite Wade Elliott has joined the queue to become Cherries' penalty-taker.

The 22-year-old midfielder has put his name in the frame alongside Warren Feeney and Jason Tindall.

Elliott had a 100 per cent record from the spot for his former club Bashley and signed off his non-league career by netting a penalty on his farewell appearance for the Dr Martens League outfit against Sittingbourne in January 2000.

Feeney became the third player to be hit by Cherries' recent penalty jinx when he missed for the first time against Blackpool on Saturday.

And his 73rd-minute blunder was the fourth time in a row Cherries had failed to score from the spot in nine games - a tally matched by Steve Robinson in four years.

Robinson was replaced as penalty-taker by Richard Hughes at the start of last season before the Scotsman stepped down after missing three out of four during the run-in.

Feeney took over from Steve Fletcher who relinquished the role after missing against Northampton in April, but the Irishman now faces competition from Tindall and Elliott.

Elliott said: "I think a few of the lads are keen to take them. I don't think Warren wants to give them up just yet and I know Jason is quite keen.

"But I would like to throw my hat into the ring as well and I would be more than willing to take them if the lads entrusted the job to me.

"I would be confident about stepping up and it is something I would look forward to. I had a decent record at Bashley, but that was a totally different standard.

"I also took one for England schoolboys in a shoot-out against Switzerland and I will certainly be putting my name forward if our Worthington Cup tie against Torquay goes to penalties tonight.

"There is no shortage of candidates to take penalties and I am one of a number of players who fancies them on a regular basis."

Cherries' Worthington Cup first round clash against Torquay at the Avenue Stadium tonight will go to penalties if the two sides are still level after normal time and 30 minutes of extra-time.
