DAY Two of the Weymouth and Portland Bowls tournament saw many exciting singles contests that enthralled the crowds of spectators.

The young Francis (Spencer Moulton) found himself involved in a gripping contest against Ralph (Greenhill) which he eventually won 21-20. He now faces Harvey (Marlow) in what could be another tight contest.

Thomas (Aberdare) continued in winning form with an excellent 22-14 win over Rod (Greenhill). Crabb (Greenhill) overcame the regular and experienced tournament visitor Richardson (Baldock) and will now face Belston (Bristol Greenbank).

T Davey (Melcombe) was on a high after a fine 22-4 win against Tritton (Greenhill). P Clarke (Dorchester) continued in winning form securing a

21-18 win over Buckman (Dolphin).

The start of the men's pairs saw many of the tournament's younger players make their mark. Last year's winners E Young and the 15-year-old James Lockwood (Dorchester) eventually came through on the last end of their match to secure victory over Connisbee/Payne (Bridport) 15-14.

The young Oliver brothers from Wellworthy had a close match against the experience pairing of Nuttal/Bennett (Bristol Greenbank) but held on to win 19-17.

Dorchester's youthful Johnson brothers also found form with a good 19-12 win against another experienced pairing of Jennings /Stevenson (Blandford).

The father and son pairing of Wise (Wellworthy) had a very close contest against Cummings/Davis (Blandford/Wimborne). An extra end had to be played to decide the contest which saw Wise secure victory by 19-17.

Francis/Patterson (Spencer Moulton/Greenhill) were in form with a convincing 23-5 win and the Llantrisant pair and past tourney winners, Mathias/Harding, secured a fine 21-16 win. Stanton /Shaw (Yeovil) were involved in a tight match against Wilson/Harewood (Southport/Crewkerne) eventually coming through as winners with the score at 16-15. Goddard/Lewendon (Greenhill) also had a very tight contest against Lowden /Belston (Bristol Greenbank). After losing the lead they fought back to secure an 18-16 win on the last end.
