WAREHAM RANGERS 1, DORCHESTER RESERVES 2

A LEE Cornick penalty and a well-taken strike by Anthony Baines put the Magpies Reserves on track for their first Dorset Combination League win of the season against Wareham Rangers last night.

Former Magpie Tommy Killick, now assistant-manager at Salisbury, got Wareham's reply in the last minute, scoring from the penalty spot after he took a tumble inside the area.

Magpies manager Phil Simkin was well satisfied with the result and his side's performance.

"They were a good side, probably a lot stronger than they will be on a Saturday when Tommy for one won't be playing and so we have to be happy with that," said Simkin.

"When they put us under pressure Carl Poore and Ollie Cherrett were outstanding in our defence and the more we got the ball to Jorge Diaz the more dangerous we looked. He's playing out of his skin and caused them all sorts of problems down the right."

Baines volleyed firmly past the Wareham goalkeeper after being put through by Robbie Taylor on the hour and Cornick's penalty came after some Diaz wizardry turned two home defenders inside out before he was brought down by a third.

Simkin was also impressed with the debut of former AFC Bournemouth Academy teenager Steven Moore in midfield. "He's got great ability and could go places," he said.
