Dorchester'S new £3,500 signing from Bashley Phil Andrews could be asked to kick-start their promotion push when they play their first Dr Martens Eastern Division game against Fisher Athletic at The Avenue Stadium tonight.

The Magpies have failed to find the net in their last three games and Andrews, whose late arrival on the scene was the reason for him being kept on the bench until the last 15 minutes at Rothwell, looks likely to be given a full game in a bid to end the famine.

"I have brought Phil in because we clearly need goals and I know he can score them," said Magpies boss Mark Morris today. "As we haven't hit the net in three games now there is a fair chance he will start tonight."

Matt Groves is the player who looks like making way for the ex-Brighton man's debut in the starting line-up, but Morris was quick to point out that he wasn't blaming the youngster for the failure to take advantage of countless chances in Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Rothwell.

"If I decide to leave Matt on the bench tonight it doesn't mean I attribute Saturday's defeat to one person," said Morris. "His general contribution over the past three games has been excellent - but unfortunately he hasn't put the ball in the net and that is what we need.

"It's my job to work out what is best for the side on the day and try to come up with a winning formula."

Andrews' role will be to feed off Danny O'Hagan with wide men Justin Keeler and Martyn Sullivan providing the ammunition for the Magpies former Plymouth Argyle attack leader.

"You shouldn't pigeon-hole players but because of his size Phil is not going to have the impact in the air that someone like Danny makes," said Morris. "But he reads the game well and gets his goals by taking up good positions in the box and finishing well. Hopefully he will strike up a worthwhile partnership with Danny."

Morris will wait on a late fitness check on player-coach Matty Holmes before naming his squad for tonight's clash with the Docklands side who, like Dorchester, are desperate to bounce straight back after last season's relegation from the Premier Division.

"Matty was caught on the ankle by a heavy challenge at Rothwell and if the game had been last night he probably wouldn't have made it," said Morris. "But the extra 24 hours has seen a big improvement and there is a good chance he will be fit."

Ex-Bees skipper Paul Toms is standing by to come into the squad if Holmes does drop out.

On Saturday Fisher made a much better start than Dorchester when they won 3-0 at home to Corby - and that was despite being without their big-money summer signing Steve Portway. Last season's Eastern Division top marksmen with 38 goals, the ex-Chelmsford striker has a knee injury which also keeps him out tonight.
