OAKMEADIANS' preparation for the new season has moved into top gear and head coach Steve Harman has announced that Isi Tuivai will be first team captain for their Southern Counties South campaign.

Even though the Meyrick Park side were fortunate to sign the 30-year-old Tongan international last season, he was only able to play in half their games because of business commitments.

However, during those appearances, Tuivai made such an impact playing at outside centre that he was voted the club's player of the year at their end of season awards ceremony.

Born in Tonga, Tuivai moved to New Zealand at 18-months-old and progressed through the classic Kiwi rugby learning school.

He played for Auckland's prestigious North Harbour club and New Zealand Under-19s. He also represented Tonga for nine years at both 15 and seven-a-side.

Tuivai also played for Hong Kong, was prominent for them in the World Cup Sevens in 1993 and dropped the winning goal during a sensational victory over Australia.

As Oaks' captain, the Tongan brings huge experience and commitment to their squad and believes he has a few more good years left in him on the playing side.

Swanage and Wareham begin their season on Saturday with a home clash against Camborne in the RFU National Cup first round, kick-off 3pm.

It is a tough opener for Swans, who will be looking to progress to the next round the following weekend, and the players would appreciate as much support as possible for Camborne's visit.

Swans are also looking for any new players of any ability to strengthen their playing squad and all new players are welcome to join the club.

For more details, contact the club on 01929 552224 or turn up at training on Tuesday evenings from 7pm at Bestwall, Wareham.

Poole are hoping this year will be something special as it is the club's 40th anniversary.

They are looking to build on last year's fourth position in Dorset and Wiltshire Division Two South and seriously push for promotion without losing their well-developed social side.

Anniversary celebrations will be arranged throughout the season. Plans are in their infancy but the club anticipates staging a major event before the campaign ends.

Poole have commenced training at their Blandford Road clubhouse on Tuesday and Thursdays at 7pm, while they also hold further sessions on Saturday afternoons.

The club's mini and youth season commences at the cub on Sunday, September 2 at 10 am.
