BROADSTONE lept from fourth place to the head of the D League on a day that spelt disaster for the top three sides.

Braeside, who went into the game as league leaders, crashed 6-0 (47-30) at Swanmore while second-placed Ferndown and third-placed Lymington also failed to pick up a point.

Those results enabled Broadstone - 6-0 (52-38) winners against Redhill Park - to take over the number one spot on shots difference from Braeside. Monica Sturgess, Kate Corbin, Barbara Parker and Irene Thompson (28-19) contribute most to Broadstone's upward surge and they were soundly backed by Dorn Woodiwiss, Mary Williams, Sheila Thomson and Jean Carter (24-19).

Daphne Prigg, Joyce Banks, Gill Head and Barbara Shaw (29-14) starred for Swanmore whose other winners were Elsie Ford, Kathy Palmer, Eileen Morris and Sheila Clarke (18-16).

Broadstone now find themselves at both extremities of the D League yet the second team belied their rock-bottom position with a heartening 6-0 (38-24) victory at Lymington. Rose Evans, Sybil Ball, Daphne Lewis and Eva Leonard (20-10 against Peggy Walker) stole the show and Peggy Friberg, Marie Reader, Mary Trayner and Marina Excell (17-14) were in full support against Phyl Hall.

To complete a memorable day of three sixes for the club Broadstone's B League side crushed title-chasing Kings Park 6-0 (52-25). Shirley Bailey, Beryl Styles, Sylvia Edgson and Ann Stewart sailed in 28-13 and Vanessa Smyth, Doreen Hadland, Anne Williams and Jeanne Abraham overcame Isabella McCafferty 24-12.

Kings Park were in good company as leaders Iford Bridge tumbled to Wimborne whose late promotion drive gathered momentum 6-0 (52-21). The 28-11 card returned by Wimborne's top rink of Audrey Welch, Irene Slaney, Margaret Penrose and Joy Tappin included a hot-shot while Jenny Clark, Jean Quillish, Joy Chaldicott and Lorna Foreman finished 24-10 up.

Richmond Park - A League runners-up last summer - are staging a tremendous late bid to go one better this time. They made it five six-point hauls from their last six matches with a full house (49-29) against Alexandra Park and now stand just one point behind top twosome Poole Park and Pelhams who are separated by shots difference alone.

Monica Niemier, Trish Gray, Lynda Gorf and Bournemouth Open mixed semi-finalist Muriel Groves outgunned Alex's Sylvia Bosbery 28-17 and Julie Saunders, Ann Devine, Shirley Field and Sheila Plomer polished off Gill Fagg 21-12. Jenny Devine - granddaughter of club president Ann - led for the rink of Jessica Stanley, Helen Stark and Marie Crone (17-14) as Richmond Park silenced Highcliffe 6-0 (41-27) in G League. Brenda Webb, Mary Fielding, Elsie Clarke and Val Richards (24-13) backed them.

It was a hat-trick of victories for Richmond Park because in the tussle between the two E League pacemakers, they defeated second-placed Verwood 4-2 (40-30).
