CHERRIES' FA Cup hero Wade Elliott today revealed that he was forced to wait more than five years to get revenge on Swansea City.

Elliott opened the scoring and made the second for James Hayter as Cherries booked their place in the second round with a 2-0 win over the Welsh outfit at Dean Court on Saturday.

And the former Bashley star's man-of-the-match display earned Cherries a home clash against the winners of the first round tie between Stoke City and Nuneaton Borough on December 9.

Elliott said: "I remember when I was in the youth team at Bashley and we got annihilated 10-0 by Swansea. It was one of the worst games I have ever played in.

"It hurts your pride when you are on the receiving end of such a big thrashing and it doesn't matter what level you are playing at because it is not a very pleasant experience.

"I know it was more than five years ago, but it all came back to me when the draw was made and it is nice to have finally got some revenge for what happened back then.

"I am also pleased for my old club because Swansea knocked Bashley out of the FA Cup in 1994 and although I didn't play, I had just joined the youth set-up and it was a big day for the club."

Elliott capitalised on a misplaced pass by Swans' defender David Romo to fire Cherries into a 54th-minute lead before he teed-up Hayter for the second goal 16 minutes from time.

Cherries must wait until November 28 before they discover who they will meet in the second round when Stoke City and Nuneaton replay at the Conference outfit's Manor Ground headquarters.

Dean Court boss Sean O'Driscoll said: "It's nice to have another home draw. Nuneaton got a great result at Stoke and it should make for an interesting replay.

"I watched Nuneaton a couple of times at the start of the season and they are a well organised side. We have nothing to fear from Stoke because we should have got a result up there last month.

"It would probably create more interest if we played Nuneaton and I remember them taking us to a replay in the first round in 1993 when I was the physio here."

O'Driscoll was forced to make three changes to his starting line-up and drafted in Narada and James Hayter for cup-tied duo Warren Cummings and Jermaine Defoe and Jamie Day for the suspended Carl Fletcher.

He added: "I was pleased for Narada because it was his full debut and he did very well. He's a competitive player who plays with a smile on his face and I think the crowd took to him.

"Jamie Day has been plugging away manfully in the reserves and he came on strong in the second half which hopefully will give him greater confidence for the future.

"I have told James Hayter he is capable of scoring as many goals as Jermaine, but he has got to start believing in himself. He took his goal well and his attitude is always exemplary."
