The six-a-side Neptune Knockout Series has produced a clash of the Titans for the finals with the all-powerful Boscombe and Southbourne team trembling in their rod rests at the thought of a tactical ploy by Wessex Angling who are threatening to take their opponents to the shores of Poole Harbour for a flattie-bashing session.

The Wessex team, comprising Neil Saxby, Steve Lawrence, Ray Trevett, Martin Cobb, Phil Muspratt and captain Simon Barber, secured their appearance in the final by beating Bournemouth and District SAA over two legs in the semi-final 26-8 to 28-0.

The Boscombe and Southbourne team led by Tony Ward got the better of Advance Angling in the semi-final 20-6 to 3-9 to figure in the finals against Wessex which should prove to be an interesting encounter.

l The Wessex tub gurnard record took a tumble when Colin Carsten tackled a mid-channel wreck from the Poole-based boat Mistress Linda skippered by Phil Higgins. Carsten used a homemade leadhead tipped with squid to tempt the record-breaker which nudged the scales to 6-6.

l Back on the shoreline, Paul Blehs, (Bournemouth and District), beached a cracking plaice from the Hengistbury Head section which weighed in at 4-5.

Blehs, a 26-year-old storeman from Poole, baited a size 1/0 with a peeler crab/ragworm cocktail to tempt the oversized redspot during an evening session.

l Keith Samson, a 40-year-old upholsterer from Upton, beached a cracking pouting weighing 2-5 during a visit to West Bexington. Samson baited a 2/0 hook with crab and squid to tempt the pouting which was more than the NFSA specimen size for the area.

l The second leg of the Wessex Senior Flounder League held at Rockley attracted 71 members and it proved to be a night to remember for John Gordon.

He won the event on a golden peg which was worth more than £300 in prize money.

He caught three flounders weighing 2-14 and included in his catch was a 1-13 flattie which was the night's heaviest fish. Steve Bishop was runner-up with 2-10 followed by Colin Ross and Dave Johnson with 2-9 and 1-9 respectively.

l The latest Rovers Mini-Midweek Pegged Open held at Lee-on-Solent produced plenty of sport with Trevor Spencer winning with 16 pout and a tub gurnard together totalling 7-8.

Chris Clark, from Lymington, was the runner-up with a 16-fish haul weighing 7-3 followed by Tony O'Grady 6-10, Daniel Mogridge 6-2 and Ryan Whitcombe 6-1.

The EFSA Shore Championships held in Holland produced a bronze team medal for Reg Clough from East Woodyates. Clough put in a fine performance during the three-match event landing more than 20 fish during the first match which included whiting topping 2lb, dabs to 1lb and flounders nudging the 2lb barrier.

l The Dennings Open along the Weymouth section of Chesil - which had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions - will now be held on November 26 with fishing from noon to 6pm.

The event will now have a £1,200 prize fund which includes a £400 top prize.

l Rovers Tackle stage a Mini-Midweek Pegged Open tomorrow at Browndown with fishing from 8pm to 11.30pm. Tickets, which have been set at just £5, are strictly pre-book only. Full details from Rovers Tackle on (01329) 220354.

l Poole Bay Small Boat AC are staging an open BYOB match on November 19 with boats leaving from 7.30am with fishing getting underway from 8.30am. The scales close at 5pm.

Signing-on will be at Baiter slipway with tickets set at £11 for adults and £5 for juniors. There will also be a 32-pool.

l The Lymington Club stage their Christmas Fair Open around the Lymington and Pennington Sea Wall on November 26 with fishing from 9am to 2pm.

The festive event has a £6 price tag plus pools for the heaviest flat and round fish.
