BOURNEMOUTH netball star Geva Mentor has been named in the 12-strong Team England squad for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

The 21-year-old, originally from Boscombe, will line up in the event for the second time next month after making her Commonwealth bow in 2002 in Manchester.

A former St Peter's School student, Mentor made her England debut at 16 and since then has become a regular in the side.

The defender is one of three members of the England Under-21 team that secured silver at last year's world youth championships.

Shooters Louisa Brownfield and Pamela Cookey are the others.

Alongside them in the England squad are a number of vastly experienced internationals, including Karen Atkinson (formerly Aspinall), Naomi Stenhouse (formerly Sidddall) and captain Olivia Murphy.

They all won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998 and were also part of the squad that finished fourth in Manchester in 2002.

Mentor, who plays for Team Bath in the Super League alongside Cookey and another England squad member Rachel Dunn, was selected for Melbourne after coming through a gruelling trial and selection process.

The Commonwealth Games in Australia begin on March 15 and go on to March 26.

England's first game is against Malawi on March 17 and they also have group matches against Fiji, St Vincent, the Grenadines and reigning world champions New Zealand.
