With 25 years on the road and over a million miles on the clock That’ll be the Day is still in tip-top form as it transports us back to the glory days of rock and pop- with riotous laughter along the way.

The first of two May Bank Holiday Bournemouth visits (it returns on the 30th) this was an awesome show proving that this sterling, multi-talented, multi-instrumental cast just gets better and better.

This sunshine-fuelled production was super-slick, bursting with energy and fun but this was also a show which threw a spotlight on each individual’s star qualities.

Kicking off with the early days of skiffle and rock and roll, the historic 2ii’s Coffee Bar and a young Tommy Steele, Cliff and Lonnie Donegan, through to the glitter ball 70’s and Abba’s Dancing Queen, best bits are almost impossible to select.

But the ingenious Gary Anderson and Trevor Payne as Robin Hood and an Eric Morecambe-like Little John were hilarious, but Gary’s Tommy Cooper and Bruce Forsyth and Trevor’s Cliff and Mick Jagger were showstoppers.

There were flashes of sadness- with a tribute to Buddy Holly, newspaper cuttings reporting his tragic death, but the show instantly lifted us back to an even greater high with ‘An at Home with the Garnetts’ (Alf Garnett) TV spoof!

Whilst big on laughs, the show packed in around a hundred feel-good musical hits to delight all.

By the time we got to the Rocky Horror tribute young and old were on their feet doing The Time Warp! Magical!
