RESIDENTS had their say on redevelopment plans for Weymouth’s Asda store.

Around 100 people attended an information event at Weymouth Library over the weekend on revised plans which involve revamping the store and improving access.

Bosses have made alterations to the original proposal following feedback including discussions with Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.

The plans still include a mezzanine level floor within the existing store and a deck car park, increasing the number of spaces by 150. But the car park will be moved further away from Marsh Road.

Pensioner Audrey Matthews of Wyke Regis welcomed the new café, clothing and electrical ranges that would be introduced in the store.

She said: “I’m all for it, although they should have let them build out of town.

“The traffic hopefully won’t be as congested and it’s good to have another level and a lift.”

Other changes include art installations on the eastern end of the site by artist Bruce Williams.

Property communications manager for Asda Chris Marlow said: “Our second exhibition has gone really well.

“Generally it’s been really positive given the improvements.

“Some people had concerns about the design but when we explained plans for trees and climbing plants they went away from the library happy,” he added.

The planning application will be submitted in July.
