A GRAN who has lived in Britain for 65 years faces expulsion from home in Dorset.
Joan Wakely, of Shaftesbury, was branded an illegal immigrant after being stopped at Gatwick coming home from Florida.
The 65-year-old was born in Vancouver but has lived in this country since she was six months old.
The mother of three travels on a Canadian passport and was told at the airport that there was no record of her being a British citizen.
Now she been given six months to pay £840 and take a citizenship test with no guarantee that she can stay.
She said: “It’s ludicrous. I thought it was a joke.”
Her Canadian father met her mother when he served in Britain during the war.
A UK Border Agency spokesman said that long residence was not on its own a sufficient qualification to remain indefinitely.
