• JULY 22-24, 2011: London 2012 Open Weekend – celebration of one-year-to-go countdown with ICCI 360 Arena on Weymouth Beach

• Throughout 2012: RELAYS (Regional Educational Legacy for Arts and Youth Sport) – A project led by Universities South West which is designed to engage and inspire young people, business and communities, events include the Art of Sport and the Moving Tides Carnival Procession

• MAY 4, 2012-SEPT 9, 2012: The Jurassic Coast Earth Festival – celebrating and animating the Jurassic Coast, the backdrop for the London 2012 Sailing and windsurfing events through a series of exhibitions - including one from the Cape Farewell project, a giant Pliosaur puppet as part of Weymouth Carnival, a simulated flight around the coastline and The Big Jurassic Classroom teacher training programme. • AUG 18, 2012: Big Dance – the world’s largest festival of dance will bring buildings, public spaces and unusual spaces to life across the UK, including a School World Record Attempt Pledge on May 18, the Big Dance Countdown from May 20 to follow the route of the Torch Relay, Big Dance Week July 7-15, Big Street Dance July 14 and Keep into Dance in August 2012 between the Olympic and Paralympic Games. • MAY 18-19, 2012: The Chalk Legends – Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Dance South West commission of new Stephen McNeff pieces celebrating the chalk carvings of Dorset and the Viking bones discovered on the Ridgeway, culminating in a concert at the Weymouth and National Sailing centre. • JULY 12, 2012 – Torch Relay and Moving Tides: Torch Relay arrives in Weymouth and Portland with the Moving Tides children’s procession set to take place at 5pm as a welcoming performance before the torch’s arrival

• JULY 21-22 and 27, 2012: Coastal Voices – A big choral programme being led by Lighthouse Poole centre for arts, which aims to create four new compositions inspired by the dynamic setting of the Jurassic coast. Two performances in London before a final concert at the Live Site on Weymouth beach an hour before the Opening Ceremony in London is broadcast. Visit www.coastalvoices.co.uk

• July 25 to August 3, 2012: Nowhereisland, is an art project that explores climate change and the concept of citizenship led by Alex Hartley. The ‘island’ will arrive at Bowleaze Cove, Weymouth, together with mobile embassy, and park on Fursey Cliffs before embarking on a trip around the South West Coast

• July 2012: The Boat Project visit to the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. Funded by Arts Council England and led by Lone Twin, the project aims to build a boat out of donated wooden objects that all have stories and memories to share. Visit www.theboatproject.com

• JULY 25-AUG 28: The Welcome Song – a new choral commission celebrating places with Olympic heritage in the UK

• July 27 to September 9: Sail for Gold - an exhibition mounted by the Royal Yachting Association in Weymouth and Portland, will celebrate Team GB’s extraordinary achievements in Olympic sailing events across the years

• July 27 to September 9: B-Side multimedia arts festival – a number of one-off high quality, site specific live art and installation events across Weymouth and Portland and throughout the Games period with an emphasis on work by disabled artists

• July 27 to September 9: ICCI360 – a festival venue that consists of 21-metre diameter dome structure incorporating a 62m x 6m high projection screen and a large performance space that uses cutting edge technology to provide a 360 panoramic digital experience for audiences of all ages

• July 27 to September 9: Offshore – the culmination of the Anti-Bodies project, a number of new commissions by international artists that explore attitudes towards the body, developed specifically for different offshore contexts in Weymouth and Portland and online. • Summer 2012: Citizen journalists – Members of the public across Weymouth and Portland will be encouraged to report on the Olympic experience via social media such as Twitter and Facebook in a project run by Weymouth College, Watershed, Bristol, the North West and Scotland

• July 28: Remix present Breath – disability arts performance company, Remix, perform their interpretation of the Quest theme on the esplanade at Weymouth on the final day of the Battle for the Winds

• August 3 to 5: The Big Grin – celebrating Mr Punch’s 350th anniversary, ‘Professors’ from across the south will congregate on the beach at Weymouth to give him and Judy a hearty birthday celebration

• August 20 to 30: Exploratory Laboratory – brings together visual artists and scientists to create new work inspired by the Jurassic Coast, England’s only natural World Heritage Site

• September 1 to 9: Inside Out – extraordinary events in extraordinary places, using spectacular international performers, and happening across Dorset and Bournemouth and Poole, including a performance of Footsbarn’s Tempest at Nothe Fort in Weymouth. Visit insideoutdorset.co.uk
