A FARMER was found dead at his home in Milborne St Andrew after falling down the stairs, an inquest heard.

Michael Herbert Hooper, 85, was found dead at Manor Farm in the village on June 4.

At an inquest into his death at County Hall, Dorchester, pathologist Dr Basil Purdue said in a statement that Mr Hooper had died from head injuries as a result of a fall down the stairs.

He added that Mr Hooper appeared to be in good health before his fall.

Dr Purdue said: “Mr Hooper appeared to be in strikingly good health for a man of his age.” PC Dave Mullins was called to Manor Farm at 8.40pm on June 4.

He said on arrival he was informed by paramedics that Mr Hooper was deceased and he saw him lying in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs.

PC Mullins said he was told that fellow villagers Darren Carpenter and Thomas Cooke had been unable to contact Mr Hooper and forced entry to the property with the farmer’s nephew Timothy Frampton. Deputy coroner Alan Horne recorded a verdict of accidental death.
