Why am I no longer surprised at your recent headlines concerning the council? Not content in destroying the road system to the town and restricting what time people are allowed to sit outside (what happened to the creation of a cafe culture?), they seem intent to now destroy the one remaining asset left in Weymouth, the beach and tourist trade.

The recent debacle over the beach kiosks puts them to shame.

The original tender documents were misleading, causing major delays and the need for the successful tenants to retender and, in some cases, subsequently lose their kiosk.

Not content with this, the council then delay planning for new, permanent structures, causing vital delays in traders being able to earn a living during the lucrative summer months.

Finally, after a second council vote, Mr Deadman was allowed to open only to be requested to close again.

What a total shambles.

The whole process should be called into question along with the integrity of the council members.

A failure from members to declare a prejudicial interest should be the subject of legal investigation.

It appears Weymouth must be the only place in the country outside of London which is not affected by the economic meltdown.

The way the council treats long standing tenants, alongside the number of businesses leaving the town, highlights a serious problem. I fear this council is incapable of leading us through the downturn.

The council is now talked about more than the weather in Weymouth. We are a seaside town, reliant on tourism and looking like a boarded- up building site.

Sort yourselves out, start representing the people of the town and show some leadership and positive vision in tying to save the town from complete meltdown.
